Jumping the gun on this one because I couldn’t wait any longer… I was planning on posting this in 3 days when we would be exactly a month away from the VYCE demo dropping on Steam, but there is a whole lot more to digest than that. Let’s get right into it.
First of all, infelicities is now an official LLC. I’ve been having some issues with transferring the rights of VYCE from a sole proprietorship to an LLC on Steam, so for the time being, I decided to stealthily upload the alpha to infelicities.com over a month early for those of you who have been keeping up with development. This alpha currently only has a Windows and a Mac build, but a Linux build will drop on Steam alongside the demo. I am a big fan of Linux so it saddens me to say this but I have tried to get it to work and it seems like packaging through Steam makes it much more accessible to a wider variety of distros.
Speaking of those keeping up, if you previously signed up for my mailing list you will need to sign up again. I made a lot of changes to this website recently, so feel free to explore the new content on every page, but somewhere along the way I lost my contacts registry. My deepest apologies for this inconvenience and I will ensure it never happens again, but it would help me out if you could re-sign up so I can restore the previous subscribers as soon as possible.
Going back to the recently released alpha, this version will have minor differences from the demo coming up in September. Besides a handful of unfinished assets, the alpha still contains a few debug tools used for making testing certain mechanics more convenient, but these are not intended for the final release. You can find these out for yourself, but if you end up mashing buttons then dying instantly, don’t blame me… Or do. I want to hear every constructive critique you guys think will make the game as good as possible before 9/11/26.
I already re-uploaded the same files twice because I noticed a glitch right after building the first project. The demo is content complete, and although it contains vastly more than what I initially planned for, it is still far from perfect. For instance, there are currently 75/99 VYCE available in the alpha, but I may or may not bump it up to 77 in the Steam demo because I like that number. I will save the rest of the VYCE for the final release because from this point forward they’re only gonna get bigger and badder, so I don’t want to introduce these too early in the game. It is currently possible to obtain every VYCE in the campaign through various methods, from capturing, to buying, to crafting, or inputting cheat codes. Regardless, 75 is a lot to get used to, so for those of you that test the alpha, let me know what’s good, what’s bad, what’s too good, what’s up dog, what’s going down, and what’s what. every tip helps
I’ve been keeping up with posting more content on social media and have been steadily pulling in more views than I am typically used to. Now that the demo is “done,” I plan to post even more to promote the demo to a inordinate market, which is what the Steam release is catered for. I’ve seen exponential growth in the number of wishlists and support, to which I am grateful for everyone invested in this project so far.
With this being the last post before the inevitable D-Day (the D is for demo), I don’t want to spoil too much, and especially with the alpha being available, I would rather have you experience these things for yourself, whether you play the jankier version that feels like downloading malware or the more polished demo a month down the line. Either way, thank you for your support and I am looking forward to responding to your feedback (please use the contact form on the /about page if you don’t have my personal info).
Thank you so much for following this journey so far. It’s hard to believe that I wanted to release around this time a year ago when all I had then was 1 room and an archaic combat system. What could have been a 5 minute long experience has evolved into a demo you can play for hours and still not experience everything it has to offer. The full game will be 3x longer than the demo, this is only act 1, so things will only get crazier from here. Let me know if you have any suggestions before I press that green upload button, but otherwise, I hope you all have a great night and enjoy what’s available along with what’s ahead!

P.S. The alpha version of VYCE was removed from infelicities.com because the demo page is now live on Steam!
