update: I remain working on VYCE every single day and the reception so far from the playtests has been solid, and also resulted in numerous QOL changes that improved visuals, controls, and more. However, I’ve felt less motivated to work on it for as long as I typically do.
I think I mentioned in a previous entry that I was working on it an unhealthy amount, and it gets to a point when you promise you’d make dinner, then you gotta “fix a few things,” just to get pulled into another rabbit hole where before you know it, the time is in the AMs and you haven’t even made dinner yet. This has happened too many times and resulted in strain on my life and relationships. I’ve been in a lethargic, sleep deprived state affecting my work and nothing good was coming from it.
Over the last week or so I have been trying to set limits and do other things besides stare at my computer all day at work and all night when I get home (although I cheated and revamped this website—there’s a lot of new stuff, but I’ll leave that for you to find). Those limits that I mentioned are self-imposed just as my compulsion to grind endlessly is, but it’s just about finding that right balance.
Anyways, enough with the hippie-dippie mental health talk. That’s what VYCE are for, right? So, what did I add over this last month? Well, it’s got a new and improved camera system, a new cursor with dynamic effects, a revamped gamepad controller setup utilizing the aforementioned cursor, and perhaps most importantly, the first major boss fight in the campaign. I won’t spoil who this is just yet but I might post a video about it later—it’s already filmed but I feel like it’s better off as a surprise. This will be in the demo set to release this year, tentatively on 9/11/2026.
One week after the planned demo release date I will be at Granite State Comic Con in the games area, premiering the game at a convention for the first time. I’ve got a couple tricks up my sleeve for this one, so if you’re in the area come stop by for some swag and exclusive gameplay.
That’s all for today. At the moment, I am in the initial phases of implementing the game’s multiplayer mode, and will keep you updated in the months to come. As the game grows bigger, additions that used to be a big deal are now just a drop in the pond, so from this point forward, blog posts will be kept more brief and only discuss major additions, news, or changes. I realized I didn’t add any images so I’ll just post this one:
